Summer Wildfires (air pollution)
As temperatures rise, we see more wildfires each year. This means increased air pollution and higher toxin burden for the body.
Some tips to reduce your risk:
#1 - Check the air quality in your area. Keep windows closed and limit time ourside if quality is considered "fair", "poor" or "dangerous to sensitive populations". (This typically means people with conditions like asthma, but really applies to everyone.)
#2 - Buy some indoor plants. If smoke does creep inside, indoor plants can help filter the air. (An air filter is also a great idea!) Some examples of plants to filter multiple types of toxins are: Peace lily, Snake plant, Spider plant, Devil's ivy, Areca palm, Chinese Evergreen, Aloe vera, and Indian Rubber plant.
#3 - Increase intake of antioxidant-rich foods to offset oxidative stress caused by inhaling carcinogens.
These foods have the highest ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity).
- Artichokes
- Acai
- Chokeberry
- Cacao powder
- Elderberry
- Black plum
- Black raspberry
- Ginger root
- Ground turmeric
- Rosehip
- Sumac bran
- Wild blueberries
